Sri Lanka D1, Kandy and the elephants !

As I told you before, we are going to Sri Lanka !  Backpack ready, bikini ready, heir straightener ready (no I NEVER travel without my hair straightener ! It is againt my religion !) , passeports ready and tourist hat on my head  we are definitely ready to go !

We start by a small jump to KL (most expensive jump ever cause I bought it at the very last minute !). It is Friday 13th so I really cross my finger for the flight not to crash ! Seriously, it would be ridiculous to crash on a 45 min flight !

After 6hours in KL, we finally take the flight to Negombo (it is not Friday 13th anymore, I can relax !) in which we all have a row for ourselves ! We did sleep for 3 hours ... priceless !

From the airport , we go to Kandy, in a VERY local bus, no aircon , only local poeple ! And first constat : everyone obviously look at us, they smile at us, and they like being taken in pictures ! I am already falling in love with the country.

In Kandy, we drop our stuff into the propobably most central guesthouse of the city. The owner is directly coming from a colonial movie, with a long white uniform, round glasses and heavy beard. He calls us "Madam" and asl his "boy" to bring our bag to the rooms ! Unusual but quite cool !

We relax for a very short while before taking a tuk tuk to go around ! we dont want to waste anytime, and Aurelie, wich is limit obssessive about the elephants, WANTS to see the elephant orphanage ! So we go take a look at the elephants taking a bath. To summarize, we have to pay a very high price to watch a good group of elephants, who pay attention to you only if you give them some bananas !

Ohh but at least I discovered that paper can be made out of elephant dung !!!

Ok, I stop grumbling, it was quite cool, the sun was going down and the lighting was beautiful, and gave a very special atomosphere to the sight ! And Aurelie is happy, if I am lucky she wont talk about animals anymore ! Until the next trip !

We have been told that we should go see the traditional danse show in Kandy.  We watched the show in a room along the lake ... it was quite cool, until I felt asleep ! I was exhausted ... I just woke up when some dude strated to burn themselves ! It is probably the grilled pork smell who woke me up !
Tomorrow, we climb a mini montain, to train for the real one, we try to avoid sunstroke, we have fun with kids, and I almost adopt one on the spot.
Kandy :
From the airport, take the free shuttle (all the way on the left when you get out of the airport) to the bus station (around 10 min) then ask for the Kandy bus.

Hotel : Olde Empire Hotel, www.oldeempirehotel.com
Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage, near Kegalle, around Rp 3000 (€19) return en tuktuk. Nice to go during bath time , 10am-12pm and 2pm - 6pm.  Entrance 2000 Rp (€13)
