Early in the morning we take a bus from Nuwara Eliya in direction of the South ! We heard about 2 amazing beaches : Unawatuna and Mirissa !
We asked around to basically every single English speaking person, hotel owner, bus neighbor, tuktuk driver which one was better, and no way to get an answer ... apparently both are awesome ! Luckily the bus we are taking goes to both beaches so we have a few hours to decide .... 9 hours to be precise ! And 9 hours of local bus ! Meaning no air con, sky seats that make me sweat like a pig and dust coming through every windows ... !! After one hour I wonder if I was not a bit optimistic on my capacities to handle this trip without loosing my mind ! After 5 hours, thud ... one of the tire just exploded ! After 6 hours we decide to go to Mirissa, after 8h we decide to go to Unawatuna, after 9h hours the bus drop us in the middle of nowhere !!! We check 2 crappy hotel before bumping into a women, very unpleasant, but that rent her rooms in front of the beach for nothing ! We are the only client, there is no restaurant or food whatsoever but it doesn't matter !
We had dinner in a very samll restaurant, about to collapse in the ocean, owened by old aunty that does the best curry ever !! The storm just strating gives an amazing atmosphere to the place.
Next day, well ...What can I say... best beach EVER ! We decided to just chill on that beautifull beach, and swimm into one of the most blue and transparent water I have ever seen ... And I have seen a few ! White Sand, transfarent water, shiny sun ... just pure relax !
Allright, not 100% relax because of the women selling silk on the beach ! All of them have very similar, colorfull fabric, and make themself all possible combination, scarf, top, pouch, cover etc ...
Well we were kind enough to take a look at what had the first women, and that was the beginning of the end ! All of them just came to us ...
But whatever, just look at that women below ... Isnt she just beautiful ! I could resist and bought her a few scarves that I really dont need ! But for around 2 euros each , why not !
Just for your information,if you ever ask yourself waht are those huge dead fish along the sea ... let me explain. It is because some very bad fishermen use dynamite to fish .... It allows to fish very quickly but destroy all the surrounding at the same time. The only positive point would be that it is free lunch for who ever collect the freshly dead fish on the beach ! And,2nd positive point .... my girls find it fun to play with colorful dead fishes ! Dont worry, me neither I dont get it !
By the way , did you know that aloe vera coes directly from a sort of branch ... you cut the plantin two and just use the substance inside as a natural aftersun lotion ! Awesome.
Ahhhh .... one more day and the trip will be over ... I dont want to leave !
Bus Nuwara Eliya – Unawatuna, 7:30 am, 280Rs.
Au final vous avez fait quelle plage? Unawatuna?
