Singapore is voting again !

Whoo whoo whooo …but what is wrong with me ! I almost forgot to talk to you about the 2nd big politic event of the year for Singaporean …. the presidential election ! Yep one can wonder how the hell I could forget that ! Well let say that it is not exactly like in France, where they talk about candidate, non candidate, maybe candidate, promises, pre election, internal fights, alliances and other pleasure of the French politic that only advantage is to make every French to agree on one think “when the fuck are they gonna give us a break !”  . Here in Singapore it is very Singaporean …. quick and efficient !
Current President is Mr SR Nathan, and who really know what is he doing ?  I don’t ! As far as I know he only have a very ceremonial role.  I think it took me a year to know his name and an other 6 months to know his face ! It is him .. here on the right !

And surprise … in June the term Presidential Election starts to be mentioned  enough in the news for me to notice it ! But because I like to criticize a lot, in my mind it was pretty clear …. there is gonna be only one candidate, the same old guy and it is not exactly gonna be exciting ! But beginning of July, big news, current president doesn’t aspire to a 3rd term … there is gonna be ACTUAL/ REAL  elections in Singapore !!! Oh yeah because I forgot to tell you that the past 2 elections, only Nathan was eligible, so they were no real election, he was appointed President de facto ! 

But this time, I don’t know what went trough the mine of the Presidential Election Committee , it actually granted eligibility to 4 candidates out of 6 !!! Youhouuuu !! Not bad, not bad ! Oh yeah for those who don’t know , basically there is a committee that decide if people can or cannot run for presidency, depending on there moral, there previous employment and responsibility blablabla !!! But this time, for the 1st time since the 1st presidential election in 1993, the election will be contested, with several candidates ! youhouuuuu !!! Big democratic move Singapore !

More or less interesting things to know about this election :

• First they started there  campaign a few weeks back, and the election is tomorrow ! Efficient, not like others !
• Then , they are all called Tan ! Nop, I am not joking ! So we have Tan Cheng Bock, Tan Jee Say, Tan Kin Lian, and Tony Tan Keng Yam ! Pfff not easy to follow !
• But hey all have a little logo, just in case you get confuse with all the Tan ! There is the little heart, a pair of glasses, a palm tree leave and a high five hand ! Cuuuuutee  !
• The campaign posters are everywhere, and I am about to know all the slogans by heart  : the Heart of the Nation, Confidence for the Future, Think Singaporeans first (ahhh I found the local extreme right candidate !), and Voice of the People !
• Even if there are NOT supposed to be member of any political party, there are all close to the PAP, except one, close to the Worker Party !
• Ahhhh and the most important ! We got a day off , the Election Day ! Yess even if the election falls on a Sunday, we have a day off to get over it ! I looveee Singapore !

Lets take a look at those fantastic guys !

         

Mr. Heart seems very popular, in Facebook at least , with 12,000 fans ! It is the only one close to the opposition party ! Mr. Extreme Right is THE only one to have a poster only in Chinese and English ! You Malays and Indians guys, you are not his target audience ! Are you even allowed to vote ? ! Mr. Glasses is obviously the one that invested most in the campaign ! He is just everywhere !!! Oh and he is also member of the Singapore Press Holding ! Yes … in term of press freedom it is not exactly ideal, but ohh well, no one is perfect, right ! ! And then Mr High Five … I don’t know , he doesn’t seem as nice as the other to me, and honestly his campaign blog sucks Big Time ! But I have to admit that the Singaporean flag as a background … it always good to play on patriotism, so why not ! (At that point of the article you might wonder what are there political point of view, right ? NO IDEA ! Do you think I am a political blogger or what ??)

Anyway, I bet a chicken rice with you that Mr Glasses is gonna win ! Lets talk about it tomorrow, as today is Cooling Day,and  we are not supposed to talk about election !

But they will make an exception for me !
